Minister of State for Administrative Reform Dr. Fadi Makki participated in the signing ceremony of a $150 million loan agreement between the Lebanese Government and the World Bank to finance the Lebanon Digital Acceleration Project. The agreement was signed by Minister of Finance Mr. Yassine Jaber, in the presence of World Bank Regional Director Dalia Khalifa, Minister of State for Technology and Artificial Intelligence Dr. Kamal Chehade, and the World Bank Country Manager for Lebanon.
The signing of the agreement marks a key milestone paving the way for the project to be referred to the Lebanese Parliament for approval and for the project to move into its implementation phase. It represents a significant step forward in Lebanon’s reform agenda, the modernization of public administration, and the enhancement of its ability to deliver more efficient and effective services to citizens.
The Ministry of State for Administrative Reform will be responsible for implementing and coordinating the project in cooperation with the various relevant administrations and institutions, including the Ministry of State for Technology and Artificial Intelligence. This will ensure the complementarity of roles and accelerate efforts to achieve the project’s objectives.
The Lebanon Digital Acceleration Project aims to drive comprehensive digital transformation across Lebanon’s public administration through the development of digital and cloud infrastructure, the strengthening of cybersecurity, the modernization of legal and regulatory frameworks, the development of government digital platforms, the digitization of priority public services, and the enhancement of digital capacities and skills.
The project will also contribute to simplifying procedures and improving the efficiency and transparency of public administration, while facilitating citizens’ access to government services and supporting the development of a more agile public administration capable of responding effectively to citizens’ needs.
Minister Fadi Makki emphasized that the signing of the agreement represents a key milestone in Lebanon’s digital transformation journey, stressing that the Ministry of State for Administrative Reform will continue to work in coordination with the various administrations and stakeholders to ensure the efficient implementation of the project and translate its objectives into tangible results that directly benefit citizens.
